The Starrett 949 Deluxe Padded Case is sized to store and protect a single outside electronic micrometer that measures to 1 inch (25 mm). The case has rounded edges, is made of steel with a vinyl covering, and has fitted foam padding to house an electronic micrometer, a CR2450 battery, and adjustment wrench (sold separately). The case is an accessory for use with a Starrett micrometer that measures to 1 inch (25 mm) in the series 3734/734, 733, 756, or 788 (sold separately).

Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are precision measuring instruments used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object.
