Polycarbonate sheets, known by the trademarked names Lexan, Makrolon, Tuffak and others, are a particular group of thermoplastic polymers. Polycarbonate is a very durable material. Although it has high impact-resistance, it has low scratch-resistance, so a hard coating can be applied for added protection. The main advantage of polycarbonate over other types of plastic is unbeatable strength combined with light weight. Polycarbonate is just one-third the weight of acrylic, or one-sixth as heavy as glass, and is nearly unbreakable.
